Support Our Mission

Honoring the Past. Inspiring the Future. America 250.

Soldiers at winter camp with huts.Because of your generosity and belief in our mission, Friends of Jockey Hollow has reached an extraordinary milestone.

Together, our community raised $2,078,622, surpassing our $2 million year-end goal for the Campaign for America 250. This achievement reflects the power of collective commitment—and we are deeply grateful to every supporter who made it possible.

As we move beyond the fundraising phase, we now enter an exciting awareness and engagement chapter leading into America’s 250th anniversary in 2026. While the campaign has concluded, ongoing donations remain essential to sustain this momentum, complete final projects, and expand educational programming throughout the anniversary year.

Our Mission & Why It Matters

Jockey Hollow is a place of resilience, sacrifice, and unity. During the winter of 1779–1780, more than 10,000 Continental Army soldiers endured the harshest winter of the 18th century here—longer and colder than Valley Forge.

Their perseverance shaped the outcome of the American Revolution. Our mission is to ensure this story is not only preserved, but fully understood, experienced, and shared—especially as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary.

What We’ve Achieved So Far

Thanks to generous donors and our partnership with the National Park Service, more than $1.8 million has already been invested in meaningful improvements at Jockey Hollow, including:

  • Comprehensive internal signage across the park
  • Archaeological investigations conducted in compliance with NPS standards
  • A new information monitor inside the Jockey Hollow Visitor Center
  • Historically accurate fencing at the Wick Garden
  • Ongoing horticultural care in the Wick Apple Orchard
  • Restoration and maintenance of 27 miles of historic trails
  • Expanded interpretive resources for the Spring Encampment
  • Complete renovation of the 50-year-old New York Brigade Comfort Station, including:
    • ADA-accessible upgrades
    • Structural and plumbing improvements
    • A new roof and native landscaping
    • Ten interpretive medallions embedded in the new walkway
  • Planning for the Pennsylvania Line Mutiny Trail in partnership with the New York–New Jersey Trail Conference
  • Environmental compliance work for the Mutiny Trail with Tetra Tech, Inc.

These investments have already transformed the visitor experience—and laid the groundwork for what comes next.

What Comes Next: America 250 Awareness & Engagement

With the fundraising campaign complete, Friends of Jockey Hollow is now focused on bringing these stories to life for a national audience in 2026.
